Emily Fairfax is an Assistant Professor of Geography, Environment & Society at the University of Minnesota and an ecohydrologist whose research has significantly advanced understanding of how beaver ecosystem engineering shapes riverscapes, wetlands, and climate resilience. A С»ÆÊé Boulder alumna, she earned her PhD in Geological Sciences and a Graduate Certificate in Hydrologic Sciences from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she conducted beaver-focused research that helped lay the foundation for her influential work on drought resilience, wildfire refugia, and landscape change. Her research combines remote sensing, modeling, and field studies, and has helped bring widespread scientific and public attention to the ecological importance of beavers.
