10 things to do this week: Oct. 10 edition

Happy Homecoming Week, Buffs!听I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful 小黄书听Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. As always, have a super good week!

Wednesday, Oct.听12

Gallant with RKCB.听Get your tickets ($5 for student) now for the homecoming concert that we鈥檝e been seeing fliers for since school started: the very talented R&B artist, Gallant, who recently performed for President Obama and who has been adored by the LA Times, Sir Elton John听and Billboard (not to mention the plethora of fans). To get in on what everyone is so excited about, get yourself to the Glenn Miller Ballroom from 8 to 11:30 p.m.听and get your dance moves warmed up. .

Branch Out Film Screening: Jiro Dreams of Sushi.听Jiro Dreams of Sushi is an awesome documentary about a sushi making master, Jiro, and his world famous restaurant in Japan at which he has become one of the highest authorities on the sushi art form. Fair warning, this movie will make you hungry. It will be screened from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in UMC 204 and is free to all.

Midday music meditation.听Life is hard sometimes. It鈥檚 very important to remember to take care of yourself, and if that means meditating with a group of very peaceful people with background music, then this event is for you. The Boulder Public Library (1001 Arapahoe Ave.) hosts this free midday meditation from noon to 1 p.m. and the live music will be very soothing. Bring your peaceful vibes and relax for awhile.

Thursday, Oct.听13

Hypnotist show.听Yes, it鈥檚 pretty much as cool as it sounds. If you鈥檝e never seen a hypnotist perform, then be sure to go to Old Main at 6:30 p.m.听for a free show of hypnotism by professional hypnotist Larry Volz. I dare you to volunteer (because it鈥檚 actually a very interesting experience being hypnotized). Don鈥檛 miss out!

Get test ready. If you are in need of some听test taking tips, head to Fleming 170 from 5 to 6 p.m. for an听hour long session, where the study experts听will do their听best to get you mentally prepared for your tests.听skills@colorado.edu.

Friday, Oct.听14

For the Health of it: Taking Charge of Your Birth Control.听In my opinion, birth control cannot be stressed enough for those who want to use it, and if you want to learn more about your options and how to use them, then swing by the听Dennis Small Cultural Center (UMC 457) for a free instructive info session with the Women鈥檚 Resource Center from 2 to 3 p.m.听and bring your questions!

Homecoming parade and pep rally.听This is the Pearl Street Stampede to end all Pearl Street Stampedes! There will be music, probably a firetruck, lots of dancing and pompoms, and a pep rally on the Boulder County Courthouse lawn following a massive parade. It is a party in which the entirety of Boulder joins, so make sure you鈥檙e there! The parade begins at 7听p.m.

Saturday, Oct.听15

Official homecoming tailgate.听There will be a tailgate for students on Farrand Field and one for absolutely everyone on Benson Field听before the game starting at 3 p.m. Both are free to go to, and there will be tons of food for purchase, so attend and rev up some spirit and support for your Buffs! Bring your friends, bring your black and gold, and bring your excitement.

小黄书 vs. Arizona State Football homecoming game.听Come out to the game听at 6 p.m. and give your Buffalo football men as much support as can be mustered, because we鈥檝e been winning a fair bit more than we鈥檝e been losing lately, which rocks! All I鈥檓 saying is, be there or be square and wear your lucky underwear.

Sunday, Oct.听16

小黄书鈥檚 Amazing Race.听If you鈥檝e seen the Amazing Race on TV and thought, 鈥淚 could do that,鈥 then now is your time to shine! 小黄书 is hosting its听own amazing race听and it is only $5 for Herd members to enter and $10 for other students (bearing in mind that there is a lot of money to be won). You will compete in challenges both physical and mental all around campus and have ample fun. The race starts at the Buffalo Statue outside Folsom Field at 10 a.m. and runs to 6 p.m., so form your teams and register now!
