The University of Colorado Boulder enrolled more international students during the 2013-14 academic year and sent more students abroad during the 2012-13 academic year than any other higher education institution in Colorado.

The data, released today by the in its annual Open Doors Report, show that ����-Boulder was home to 2,163 international students during the 2013-14 school year, up from 1,910 in 2012-13.

In addition, ����-Boulder sent 1,282 students overseas during the 2012-13 school year.

“International experiences transcend education at С����-Boulder in many positive ways,” said С����-Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano. “As our students, faculty, visiting scholars and staff pursue some of the greatest academic, research and service programs around the globe, they broaden cultural perspectives and understanding, benefiting themselves, our community, Colorado and beyond.”

С����-Boulder has held the No. 1 spot in Colorado for sending and receiving international students for 12 of the past 13 years, according to Larry Bell, executive director of С����-Boulder’s .

“Since 2000, our campus community has led the way in the state as an example of international education and its benefits,” said Bell. “International education at С����-Boulder contributes tens of millions of dollars annually to our state economy. More significantly though, it increases discovery and mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and other countries.”

����-Boulder also ranked No. 12 in the nation in 2012-13 among higher education institutions of its type for study abroad participation in semester-long programs.

Among higher education institutions across the nation that offer doctoral programs, ����-Boulder ranked No. 39 in 2012-13 for overall study abroad participation.

The Open Doors Report on the flow of students to and from the United States is released annually in conjunction with International Education Week, which this year is Nov. 17-21. The week of celebration is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.

Other top-ranking Colorado institutions recognized in this year’s Open Doors Report include the University of Denver, Colorado State University, Colorado College and the University of Colorado Denver.
