What time is it on Mars? Physicists Neil Ashby and Bijunath Patla have calculated a precise answer for the first time, and their results were recently published in The Astronomical Journal. Ashby, professor emeritus of physics and physicist at NIST, formerly administered the С»ÆÊé Professional Research Experience Program, connecting students and postdoctoral scholars with researchers at NIST. Patla was previously a С»ÆÊé PREP researcher and is now a NIST Physicist in the Time Realization and Distribution Group.

С»ÆÊé PREP Senior Research Fellow Ryan Snodgrass has been awarded the 2025 William E. Gifford Award from the Cryogenic Society of America for his outstanding contributions to the field of cryogenics.
A team including С»ÆÊé PREP researchers and scientists from С»ÆÊé Boulder and NIST have built the first random number generator using quantum entanglement to produce verifiable random numbers. The group includes С»ÆÊé PREP researchers Gautam Kavuri, Jasper Palfree, Dileep Reddy, and Michael Mazurek, and PREP Program Manager Paul Beale.
Former С»ÆÊé PREP researchers Vladislav Gerginov, Greg Hoth (PhDPhys'16) and Jeff Sherman are part of the NIST team that recently established NIST's new atomic fountain clock, NIST-F4.
Former С»ÆÊé PREP researcher Krister Shalm shares how quantum and dance are related through creativity and precision in NIST's Taking Measure blog "Quantum and Dance: It Takes 2 to Entangle." Shalm is now a physicist at NIST.
Congratulations to our Spring 2025 С»ÆÊé PREP Graduates: Gabriela Martinez, Michelle Pirrone, Benjamin Scheck and Tongyu Zhao!
Six researchers from the С»ÆÊé Boulder Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) have been recognized as Distinguished Associates in 2024 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The honor is conferred by the Physical
Now a quantum physicist at Infleqtion, Dan Cole reflects on his experience conducting research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of С»ÆÊé’s Professional Research Experience Program (С»ÆÊé PREP).
For recent graduate Jenny Jiahui Wu, her time at С»ÆÊé Boulder has been one of cutting-edge research and discovery. Learn about her path to grad school in Boulder, her research at NIST through С»ÆÊé PREP, and what's in store for her next.
