Welcome to the University of Colorado Boulder graduate wind conducting program! Here you will find important information about our program and degree offerings.
The master’s and doctoral conducting program provides a wide variety of experiences that prepare our graduate conductors to function in teaching and conducting positions. We have three teaching assistantships that allow our graduate students to work with all areas of our comprehensive band program. We have three bands—С»ÆÊé Bouuler Wind Symphony, С»ÆÊé Boulder Symphonic Band and С»ÆÊé Boulder Concert Band; as well as our athletic bands—Golden BuffaloÌýMarching Band and BuffÌýBasketball Band. Our graduate students are involved in all aspects of the program as well as undergraduate conducting courses.
In addition to our annual season of concerts, honor band festival andÌýguest artists, we also host a summer conducting symposium. Our guest clinicians have included Richard Floyd, Michael Haithcock, Jerry Junkin,ÌýKevin SedatoleÌýand Steve Davis.
Shanti Simon
Shanti Simon is director of bands at the University of Colorado Boulder where she oversees the band program, conducts the С»ÆÊé Boulder Wind Symphony, leads the graduate wind conducting program and teaches undergraduate conducting. In addition to her role at С»ÆÊé Boulder, she serves as associate conductor of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.
Prior to joining the С»ÆÊé Boulder faculty, Simon was director of bands at the University of Oklahoma. Before that, she served as flight commander and associate conductor with the United States Air Force Academy Band in Colorado Springs and the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. where she conducted performances across the country and around the world. She was on the faculty of Shenandoah Conservatory as associate director of bands for the 2013-14 academic year. MORE
Logan Sorey
Interim Associate Director of Bands Logan Sorey joined the College of Music faculty in 2024. His responsibilities include conducting the С»ÆÊé Boulder Concert Band, directing the the Golden Buffalo Marching Band and Buffs Basketball Band and teaching the marching band techniques course in the college’s music education curriculum. During the summer term, Sorey directs the С»ÆÊé Boulder Summer Music Academy.
Prior to his faculty appointment at С»ÆÊé Boulder, Sorey was a graduate part-time instructor in the bands department where he frequently guest conducted the С»ÆÊé Boulder Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Wind Symphony Chamber players. He has been the instructor of record for the С»ÆÊé Boulder Campus Band and a frequent guest lecturer in the college’s undergraduate conducting programs. Previously, Sorey taught seven years in Hillsborough County Florida at the middle and high school levels.ÌýMORE
