Transition Payment
The transition payment is a one‑time bonus intended to help employees adjust to the move from a monthly pay schedule to a biweekly pay cycle with arrears. The change may result in short‑term financial or logistical adjustments during the transition. The payment is not based on hours worked, is separate from regular wages or overtime, and does not need to be repaid.Ìý
The transition payment will be based on a percentage of the employee's salary. More information and supporting resources will be shared closer to the transition payment date to help inform expectations around the amount. Any estimates provided will be approximate and may differ from the final amount paid out.
The specifics of the funding approach for the transition payment are still being reviewed and more information will be shared as soon as those details are finalized.
Our goal is to provide the transitional payment in late September or early October. The Time and Labor project has recently moved into the Testing phase, and we expect to confirm the exact payment date during this period. Once the date is finalized, we will notify the impacted employees.
Pay Groups & HCM Tracking
Beginning Sept. 27, 2026, all current nonexempt, Federal Labor Standard Act (FLSA) overtime-eligible employees will transition from a monthly current pay schedule to a biweekly pay schedule. In addition, staff and 12 month faculty with hire dates on or after Sept. 27, 2026, will be on a biweekly pay in arrears schedule.
While the pay frequency for the 1%, on call employees will transition to a biweekly schedule on September 27, 2026, they are not eligible for a transition payment. The transition payment is designed for employees who are moving from being paid in advance to being paid fully in arrears. All UCB 1% on‑call employees are already paid in arrears, so there is no payment gap to bridge. They will simply begin receiving pay more frequently under the new biweekly schedule.
Graduate students who are paid on a contract basis will not move to the biweekly pay schedule at this time.
