At the 2026 State of the Campus, Chancellor Justin Schwartz issued a call for bold ideas to help shape С�� Boulder’s future, and we kicked off the process of collecting ideas from across our campus.

Now, we are inviting students, faculty and staff to take part in С�� Boulder’s Big Ideas effort, an initiative focused on imagination, creativity and impact that will propel our campus into the future.

As the effort takes shape and our next steps are defined, we invite you to submit your ideas. Additional opportunities to share ideas through informal conversations and outreach will be offered in the coming days and weeks.

A Big Idea is not a traditional proposal. We are not seeking budgets or detailed plans, but rather big questions and transformative ideas. We are looking for ideas with big IMPACT—ideas may have small or large budgets, may take months or years to implement and can involve a few individuals or many parts of campus. Anyone can submit any type of idea, with emphasis on the potential for big impact on our campus community for decades to come.

Review of ideas will begin the week of March 24, right after Spring Break. We encourage you to submit your ideas before then, though our submission form will remain open to additional ideas for ongoing review. In addition, we will hold “office hours” beginning the first week of March where we (Stefanie and Waleed) will be available to answer questions and hear ideas you may have. This will be followed shortly thereafter with a World Café style of idea sharing. Stay tuned for more information on those events and next steps to come.

As the chancellor said during the State of the Campus, “Some of the greatest ideas in human history have come from asking unbounded questions. Let’s be the place where such questions are not merely rhetorical.”

As we honor 150 years of transformation, we ask: what should С�� Boulder dare to build next?

Hello I&R! Thank you to those who came to the informational sessions for the LGBTQ+ subcommittee.

We're moving forward with subcommittee's first meeting on March 17th. I’m hoping we can meet, get to know one another a little better, and start brainstorming some initial events, resources, or areas of focus that the subcommittee could host or provide. It will take a multitude of voices to make this subcommittee meaningful and effective, so please attend if you can.

Feel free to invite a colleague who may be interested in joining this work or who would benefit from being part of this community.

As Black History Month comes to a close, we recognize and celebrate the history, achievements, and lasting contributions of Black and African American communities. This month invites continued learning, reflection, and dialogue around equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Black History Month began as “Negro History Week,” established in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson. Woodson chose February to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, both deeply connected to Black history. The observance later expanded into a month-long recognition, gaining national recognition in 1976.¹ Today, Black History Month highlights the voices, experiences, innovations, and cultural impact of Black individuals whose contributions have profoundly shaped our nation and its institutions.

IROCC encourages you to participate in the remaining Black History Month events, which offer opportunities to learn, engage, and connect.

We have two open positions in the Fleet Division. The Fleet Maintenance Coordinator is a brand-new position in the department that will manage intake & scheduling, parts inventory and third-party commercial repairs. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for С�� vehicle owners needing to schedule preventative and malfunction maintenance. This position will report directly to Mike.

Fleet Maintenance Coordinator

Second is a Tech II position that will join Kevin on our light duty maintenance side. This is a desperately needed position to keep up with all of the maintenance needs. This position reports directly to Rich.

Fleet Technician II

Both positions have a $500 referral bonus! If you refer someone and they get the job, you get $500. So please forward widely to anyone you think would be a good fit with our awesome team. Both positions will close on March 1.

Fans will get a first glimpse of the 2026 Colorado Buffaloes football team as well as an opportunity to support two other spring programs as part of the annual AT&T Black & Gold Day, scheduled to take place on April 11. In addition to an open football practice, both the Buffs' lacrosse and tennis teams will be in action.

The division of Infrastructure and Resilience has several open positions and we need your help recruiting. If you know anyone who might be interested in applying for one (or more) of the positions listed below, please encourage them to apply. Be sure they include your name on the application when they apply so that you get the referral bonus after they complete the time period listed below. Please note an employee can only earn one referral bonus for a new hire (meaning they cannot get two referral bonuses for the same employee). If an employee is re-hired (who had earned a referral bonus previously), a current employee (even if he/she is not the original referrer), cannot earn a second referral bonus for the re-hired staff member. As a reminder, the С�� Boulder HR promotions and transfers webpage outlines how employees may express interest in other transfer and promotional opportunities.

Buff Bus Drivers

$500 referral bonuses are available to current С�� staff who refer new (not returning) CDL-licensed bus drivers to our team: a one-time $500 bonus will be paid out to the referring employee after the new hire reaches six months of employment. Bus driver bonuses do not apply to referrals for CDL-trainees.

Transportation Fleet Mechanics

$500 referral bonuses are available to current С�� staff who refer new (not returning) fleet mechanics to our team: a one-time $500 bonus will be paid out to the referring employee after the new hire reaches six months of employment.

Groundskeepers

$200 referral bonuses are available to current С�� staff: a one-time $200 bonus will be paid out to the referring employee after the new recruit reaches three months of employment.

Custodians

$200 referral bonuses are available to current С�� staff who refer new custodians to our team: a one-time $200 bonus will be paid out to the referring employee after the new recruit reaches three months of employment.

Material Handlers

$300 referral bonuses are available to current С�� staff who refer new material handlers to our team: a one-time $300 bonus will be paid out to the referring employee after the new recruit reaches six months of employment.

Trades (Mechanics/Journeyman/Technicians)

$500 referral bonuses are available to current С�� staff who refer new trades workers to our team: a one-time $500 bonus will be paid out to the referring employee after the new recruit reaches six months of employment. Referral-eligible trades positions include mechanics, journeymen, and technicians.

Utility and Energy Services (technical positions only, clerical positions are excluded from this referral program)

$500 referral bonuses are available to current С�� staff who refer new technical (non-clerical) workers to join our Utility and Energy Services (UES) team. This bonus is available for UES technical positions posted on or after Jan. 7, 2026 (not retroactive for past positions). The bonus will be payable within 30 days after the referred utility plant operator (UPO) is fully qualified (B&C, CHP programs completed and passed both board qualification exams). Other bonuses will be paid out to the referring employee after the new recruit reaches six months of employment.

We are offering these referral bonuses to any current С�� staff member (classified or University staff) in a .50 FTE (50%) or greater position. Anyone involved in the hiring process for the positions above (including direct supervisors, hiring managers, appointing authorities and HR) will not be eligible for the referral bonus program. New recruits must come from outside the Infrastructure & Resilience team. If a current I&R/Facilities Management staff member is being promoted or transferred into one of the positions above, neither that person, nor that person’s colleagues, are eligible for referral bonuses. Once referral award bonuses are earned, they will be paid during the next regular payroll cycle.
