Swimming and diving, triathalon teams win national titles
Varsity athletes aren’t the only Buffs bringing trophies back to Boulder. This spring, both the С-Boulder triathlon and swimming and diving clubs repeated as national champions.
Swimming and diving won the East Coast Collegiate Swim and Dive Championships — the national club title — in Atlanta in April. It was the team’s fifth national title in a row and ninth overall.
Also in April, triathlon earned its sixth club title in a row and 16th overall in Clemson, S.C.
С-Boulder has 17 and 31 active .
In swimming,Casey Wilson(Mgmt’16) won the women’s 100-yard IM and 100-yard breaststroke, whileAlaina Gosset(Jour’17) won the 100-yard backstroke and set a new meet record of 2 minutes, 6.65 seconds to win the 200-yard backstroke.
In women’s diving, С swept the podium in the 1-meter and 3-meter events withEmma Plentl(Geol’18) finishing first in both andHanna Le(Art, ArtHist, MCDBio’15) coming in second twice.Conor Mead(Class, Engl’18) was third in the women’s 1-meter event andBonnie Grieson(IntPhys’17) was third in the 3-meter final.
In men’s diving,Jake Voltarel(MechEngr’17) andMatt Jagiello(IntlAf’17) finished second and third in the 1-meter.
“Our team strength comes from our depth in all the events as well as our diving,” says club presidentOnshalee Promchitmart(IntPhys’16). “Where many teams have only one representative in an event, С often had multiple individuals in final events, which helps the team immensely.”
In triathlon,Rudy Von Berg(Mktg’17) led the way with a victory in the men’s overall Olympic-distance race. He finished in 1:44:41.
